Heart of the Moors: An Original Maleficent: Mistress of Evil Novel is an adorable little YA fairytale retelling that any Disney Villains—and Princesses—fan will love.
You do need to have seen at least the first Maleficent movie though, as it picks up where the film’s resolution left off, and has all of the characters and backstory.
Aurora is plucky, soft and strong as ever, and a fairly solid heroine to lead us through the continuation of this story. I would have preferred far more of Maleficent, but when she does show up, she shines in the most sparkling-darkling way. The romance between Aurora and Prince Philip got a bit annoying with the whole “important conversations getting interrupted at the worst times” trope, but the besties-to-true-love arc was really lovely, and in the end, I forgave them for being young idiots in love. 😉
The epilogue really got me in the feels. 🥹
Overall, satisfying and fun. Also a fairly quick read. I enjoyed it very much!
